Q: Why does my iphone 4s turn on Voice Over by itself?

The first time it happened to my iphone 4s I made an appt. at the Genius Bar because my screen would fade to black as soon as it came on. They fixed it, said that "Voice Over" in Settings had been turned on. I had been in Settings recently but didn't even know what "Voice Over" was so I knew I didn't do it. Then, about a month later it happened again. I was looking at my phone, about to click off, when the screen just faded to black and would not come up again no matter how many times I reset it, tried the itunes reset, etc.  Later, after making another appt. at the Apple Store, like last time,  I again could hear Siri babbling very softly......hmmmmm. I asked Siri to turn my phone on and she said she couldn't. Then I asked her to turn "Voice Over" OFF and she did and, voila, I had a picture again.

How can I make this stop happening? Any way to forever turn "Voice Over" off?

Thanks for any help anyone can offer:)

Go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Accessibility Shortcut and make sure VoiceOver is not checked.

Thanks, but I have never turned Voice Over "on," never checked it to be "on,"  but twice now it has turned itself "on." I was never even in Settings when it happened. Apple's Genius Bar found the problem the first time the screen went black and would not come up at all. Something is making it turn itself on, wish I knew how to stop it. Thanks for trying tho:)

Did you follow the path I to the shortcut as I indicated and made sure it's not enabled? Or are you just assuming that it's not set that way? What I directed you to was not the switch to enable VoiceOver. It was the setting that determines what the Home button does if you click it three times. If the accessibility shortcut is set to turn on VoiceOver, it's possible that you've inadvertently clicked the Home button three times and turned it on.

I don't recall what the out of the box setting is.
