Q: how to set up "two iMacs"
I have a 2010 iMac with OS 10.8.5. I want to keep that OS for use with certain software, namely Pro Tools 10 and Adobe Photoshop.
However, there are all kinds of difficulties using such and old system, especially on the internet. My wifi doesn't work right, the computer runs so slowly sometimes it's killing me. Certain web site require higher level apps.
So here's what I have in mind:
1. Buy a new model iMac with the latest and greatest OS. Use that for internet access, wifi control, etc.
2. Keep my old iMac with the old OS. Hopefully, the Genius Bar can get it running much better -- and fix the DVD drive
3. Connect the two so that I can pass data both ways -- easily.
4. Set up regular backup for both iMac hard drives. I currently have a MyBook backup drive
Is this the way to go?
Am I overlooking anything?
How can I accomplish step #3 -- communication between computers?
What's the best way for backup?
Note that I'll be generating a lot of music files on the old computer
iMac info:
3.2 GHz Intel Core i3

OS X 10.8.5 (12F2560)

MyBook drive:

Thanks for you help!
