Q: Time Machine Network Backup Drive Size Discrepancy
I have OS X El Capitan set up on my network as a server running the Time Machine service. I have a 4TB External drive set up to act as a backup location connected to the server. The drive is formatted correctly for Time Machine and my client (MBP 15" Retina) sees it and shows the right size 4TB available of 4TB.
The problem comes in when it tries to back up and then errors out and telling me that there is not enough space for the backup. The backup it is trying to do is 1.53TB. Even if it was a 2TB drive there would be enough space. After the space error message the size changes to 2TB available of 2TB. The drive is in deed showing in Disk Utility on the server as 4TB and all 4TB are available free. This happens with any drive I connect it seems. I also tried it with a 3TB drive and the size changes to 2TB after it fails telling me it does not have enough space.
I have two other Macs that are able to backup just fine to another drive connected to the server. Is there something cached somewhere that has to be cleared...I really need to make sure the machine is backed up and would like to do it over the network as I am sometimes not connected via cable at my desk.
Thanks
