I have recently bought a new macbook and it came with El Capitan pre-loaded. Safari used to load outlook.live no problem but now it will not. It takes ages to load and then ends up with the error message “safari can’t find the server”. I have tried deleting all website data and history etc. but it did not work. I don’t want to have to use the mail app because I don’t like it. Does anyone have a solution?

That's because there is no "outlook.live". There is an "outlook.com" and there is a "mail.live.com" (which outlook.com redirects to), but there is no "outlook.live".
The solution is to type the correct url in the address bar.
Somewhat less than helpful but I appreciate your reply. The url that doesn’t work for me is outlook.live.com, which is what i get redirected to from hotmail and outlook sign-in. Is there any other solutions you could think of?
My email works on my phone and other machines.
Try typing the whole url https://outlook.live.com.
Do you have any third party apps installed that claim to protect, manage, clean, etc.? If so, uninstall these apps. Do you have any Safari extensions installed that may be blocking? If so uninstall these extensions.
By the way, outlook.live.com is a login page.
I have the same issue with Outlook.live email. KiltedTim is incorrect, the url is https://outlook.live.com. Using the full address by including https, makes a slight difference but still doesn't open the page. I'm at a complete loss as what to do.
On my system Outlook.live.com goes to Outlook.com, so you get to type more things and go to the same page. More work = no result. Such a deal.
I too have exactly this issue. In the end I've managed to get authenticated by going first to this URL https://www.office.com.
From there you can get to outlook, calendar etc.
Now I've got a different problem - calendar or task items created in the locally installed outlook client don't synch with the online versions or the outlook app for IOS.
I have the SAME Fing problem! Makes me want to punch the computer. Worst when it is an urgency!

Hit Outlook
Login.

I have the same issue. It was working fine last week, however I can't access my email now on a MAC. It does actually sometimes work but it appears to time out while waiting to load my inbox.
