Q: Phising Fraud or genuine Apple Email?
I received this email:
It looks very real. I was worried that fraud had taken place and that some unhid used my Apple ID to purchase Music Membership. I clicked to cancel using the link provided.
apple.cancel.and.manage.securetaxpaymant.com/account/
This opens a site that looks very genuinely Apple. It asks for our Apple ID. I signed in and it even listed my apple products with the dates of that they have been linked to my Apple ID. If this site is not Apple, then how could they do that?
The site asks for details of my payment methods, and prompts me to input credit card details. At that point I smelt a rat and checked the layout of the fraud email and previous iTunes emails and found they were slightly different. I stopped inputting details, and immediately changed my Apple ID password.
So, if this is a Fraud:
First, can Apple let people know that such attempts are likely. I am fairly savvy, but it took me a wile to realise this was fraud. Others might even input all their bank details because it looks very convincing.
Second, how could the fraud site get details of my linked devices from Apple?
Third, if this is not fraud, can someone fro Apple help me cancel the fraudulent purchase of Music on 'Megan's iPod' please?
Thanks
Nanmosta
