Q: Any point fixing my AirPort +WIFI?

I live in rural Panama, where everything in the house that is plugged in has a surge protector and /or AVR protecting it. Recently we had a nearby lightning strike that took out my cable company modem and my AirPort time machine/router. Everything else was off or OK. My Mac was plugged in in a different room With my backup hard drive.

 

Is there any point bringing my AirPort in to have someone look at it or is it now just an Apple door stop? I feel really fortunate that I didn't lose anything else in that storm. Thanks for any advice you may have.

Apple does not offer repairs or repair parts on their AirPort products, so unfortunately not much that you can do other than simply replace the device.

 

A really good technician who could rob parts rom another Time Capsule might be able to repair the Time Capsule......but the cost of doing this would probably exceed the cost of a new Time Capsule.

 

If you need the data on the Time Capsule hard drive, you can open it up and pull the hard drive out, then place the drive  in an enclosure or caddy to see if the surge left the hard drive alone.

    Thanks Bob for your response - this is the answer I expected.  I had a back up to my back up so with my data intact I bid a fond farewell to this AirPort.
