Q: iPad 2 Unique Apple Logo Issue

I've dealt with Apple Logo boot issues before (work at a repair shop), but this is the first time I've seen one do this.

The iPad boots up and is fully functional, but the screen display shows the Apple logo that jumps back and forth between the middle and left side of the screen. Plug it in, makes the plugged-in tone. Unlock screen, press the Sleep/Wake button, makes the locking tone and the screen turns off. Press either home or sleep/wake, and the screen turns on.

Again, iPad fully functional, but the display is the glitchy Apple logo. Tried soft reset and update. During the recovery mode update, the screen was functioning fine, which leads me to the possibility of needing a factory reset, but I'd rather avoid that if at all possible. Anyone know what would cause this, and is there a way to fix this without a factory reset, which might not fix it anyway?
