Q: Internal speakers not showing up on MacBook Air laptop

SEPT 08, 2016

Dear Apple support committee,

All of a sudden my internal speakers are not showing up and I have no sound whatsoever. My laptop was working fine yesterday and I have never had any issue like this one before.

(MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan version 10.11.6)

  • The volume icon on the top menu bar is grayed out and stuck on the lowest setting

  • In System Preferences / Sound tab / BOTH “Input and Output” are blank and it says NO INPUT DEVICES FOUND

  • And the “Mute” box is checked but grayed out in BOTH “Input and Output”

  • There is no chime-sound when I restart or empty the trash folder, etc.

  • Ear plugs / headphones not working

  • When I try to play a song in iTunes there is no sound at all

Do I need to make a Genius Bar appt?

Thank you

-Michelle
