I was going to get the new MacBook Pro, but the new MacBook Pro with only USB C connectors has caused me to rethink what I'm going to do about updating now.
I have no problems using it.

A reminder for those just joining the thread. Sierra has some serious issues with Aperture, which only affected some models, such as the 2009 iMacs. Just because one person says he had no problems doesn't mean you won't.
On the plus side, it's been said that the latest beta resolves this issue.
Aperture stopped years ago and Apple is only updating iPhoto. I just updated my Mac to Sierra. This is probably as solid good working OS as Mavericks which was on my machine before upgrading. So far it runs fast on a 2009 computer. Only problem is Aperture is gone, it asked me to upgrade newer version on app store but the fact is, it has been discontinued so whatever pics in there were gone. I had my pictures transfered to iphoto before so I am fine with that.
Upgrade my iMac from Mavericks to Sierra, the Mac runs as good as when it was using Mavericks but my Aperture and iPhoto apps are grey, gone, unaccessible. Aperture said the software is incompatible with Sierra and need to upgrade but it has been discontinued for years now. iPhoto said need to upgrade to newer version. In the app store it forced me to buy new storage in order to upgrade and view my photos but I have only about 30 photos and my free storage is still 4.93 GB which more than I ever need. Other option is if I refused I can't see my photos. It holds me hostage here.
" I dont see any photos which was stored in my old aperture app" What do you mean?

You do not need to use iCloud Photo Library at all if you are using Photos for Mac. There is no need to purchase any iCloud Storage, unless you enabled iCloud options like iCloud Drive or iCloud Photo Library.
Aperture stopped years ago and Apple is only updating iPhoto.
Aperture never "stopped". Apple stopped officially supporting it a year ago, and it is a dead end product, but for now it's still working. iPhoto was also discontinued, replaced entirely with Apple's new Photos app.
Only problem is Aperture is gone, it asked me to upgrade newer version on app store but the fact is, it has been discontinued so whatever pics in there were gone.
That's nonsense. Aperture has not stopped working and it certainly hasn't lost whatever users had stored in its library.
You should download Google photo uploader to your mac (Prefer chrome) it will upload all your photos in iphoto, aperture automatically and G.divide them by date for you, group them to faces, places etc... and you can upgrade OSX. Aperture is discontinued so don't take a chance. My aperture crashed after upgrade, well, not crashed b/c it's still there but all my photos in time machine, aperture were disappeared. Luckily, Google had save me. Free and unlimited storage of best quality for 15GB free of original files.
Google had save me. Free
If you ain't paying for it then you're what's been sold.
NO! aperture and iPhoto will disappear and be replace by Photos software and you need to pay apple storage plan to see your lost photos. Backup your pics in Google photo overnight, it will do it automatically and categorize them for you. It's free. You just need to sign in chrome account.
BTW Terence, get a life.

No they have not and will not. They're no longer developed or sold, doesn't mean they won't work. No one, Apple or anyone else, suggests for a moment at Photos replaces Aperture. That's a ridiculous statement.
and you need to pay apple storage plan to see your lost photos.
Why on earth would you need to do that? There is no 'apple storage plan' for either iPhoto or Aperture. None whatever. Have you ever used either app? You seem strangely unaware of the characteristics of either of them.
I note that you now have a grand total of three posts, all of which are pushing this service and none of which make any mention of the significant privact concerns attached to it. I wonder why? There's a tradition on this board that we warn people of potential downsides to the suggestions we make.
There are many methods of backing up a Library, including to external disks, all of which are faster and attract less concern. Perhaps you should investigate those.
Terence! I upgraded to Sierra last week, iPhoto and Aperture greyed out, I couldn't click on either of them. Photos app installed with Sierra and when I clicked on, it lead me to iCloud. Don't know what had happened to all my photos. I couldn't open photos in iCloud unless I agree to pay for iCloud storage monthly fee. I only had around 100 pics and used less than 500MB and falls within the free??? 5GB space but it still says I need to upgrade storage to see photos. I hope my pics are in there. I am honest and warning people out there. And you deleted my post b/c it was bad publicity.
Were you using an older version of Aperture such as Aperture 2? Your posts just aren't making sense which is why you are getting the comments/questions you are getting. Not sure why you were prompted to log into iCloud when opening Photos unless that was something in your settings re:syncing with your devices. You should have a local version of the Photos library on your computer. And if you have an Aperture Library on your computer you can 'show package contents' and see your photos in there even if you can't open the application.

You are awful. It's a miracle Terence or anyone else even bothers to waste time to try and help you.
