Q: Why are icloud photosharing and mail turned off for managed apple id's?

Some of our teachers want to be able to receive mail from students, or want to share photos from a shared iPad with managed Apple ID's. Why are these features turned off permanently, while other features like Facetime messaging can be turned on by the administrator?

Feature availability

Managed Apple IDs have been designed for educational purposes, with access to certain capabilities. The following services are disabled for Managed Apple IDs:

  • App Store purchasing
  • iTunes Store purchasing
  • HomeKit connected devices
  • Touch ID
  • Apple Pay
  • Find My iPhone
  • Find My Mac
  • Find My Friends
  • iCloud Mail
  • iCloud Photo Sharing
  • iCloud Keychain
  • FaceTime (off by default, but can be turned on by your institution)
  • iMessage (off by default, but can be turned on by your institution)

Not all services are available in all countries or regions.
