Q: I Have to Tap Again and Again Until It Registers

I'm trying hard to enjoy my iPad Mini 4, but I'm getting frustrated.

When I tap on a control in an app, frequently nothing happens. I have to tap and tap again and again, harder/softer/faster/slower until my tap finally registers and I get a response. It's becoming annoying.

Similarly, when I tap in a note or document to move the cursor to a different spot in the note or document, frequently nothing happens. I have to tap again and again to get the cursor to move. This is getting to be hard to live with.

I've demonstrated this behavior at the Genius Bar of my local Apple store, and the Geniuses tell me to keep practicing until I get it right. This, to me, is not an answer. Not to be a pain in the you-know-where, but tapping on my Android phone is virtually effortless and I almost always get a response.

To my fellow iPad aficionados: Is there some 'trick' that I'm missing here? Is there a particular technique for tapping on the screen that more or less guarantees a response from the iPad?
