Q: Pics on text don't disappear once deleted.

I've deleted pictures on my text message thread but they still appear on the details page of the text thread. does the other person need to delete them as well so that they will no longer show? is there another way to get fully rid of them without the other person having to as well? or without deleting the entire thread. iOS 10
