Q: Skip a slide when transitioning

Hi all,

I would like to be able to tell Keynote to transition to an arbitrary slide in my deck. Say, I have finished presenting Slide 3 and would then like to have Keynote jump to slide 7 directly. This can be achieved with links, but I would like to be able to do it without the clicks. Is this even possible?

It may seem like a non-issue, but there are situations where this would help a lot. If needed, I am happy to elaborate, but I hope it is a simple fix.

Thanks and best regards

With keynote in play, use the keyboard to enter the number of the slide then press the enter key.

Thanks Gary! Not exactly what I meant tho...

I am using a presentation that is quite heavily linked to illustrate a small web development project I am working on (simply out of convenience, since I am very used to Keynote). It works great and allows people to click themselves through the webpage. There is a problem tho with some of the transitions:

Imagine Slide 3 being a very central part of the website. That means that there are multiple links pointing to it (i.e. Slide 1 and Slide 7 both have Links to it). The way I handled transitions is that I created intermediate slides ("From 1 to 3" & "From 7 to 3"). Links now point at these transition slides that start out as Slides 1 or 7 respectively and then do some stuff to end up as Slide 3. Only then should the real Slide 3 appear. Does that make sense? The problem now is that at the end of the transition slides, they cannot both go to Slide 3 directly! I can for example place "From 1 to 3" directly in front of Slide 3, but where would I put "From 7 to 3"? I would need to be able to tell Keynote to skip to Slide 3 after "From 7 to 3". Please tell me if you need more information!

Don't use extra slides, use Builds instead.

as an example:      link from slide 1 to slide 3 when an image shows then dissolves to reveal the content of slide 3

    • add an image to slide 3 and size to fill the slide
    • click to select the image
    • Inspector > Animate > Build Out > Add an Effect    use Dissolve
    • click on the Build Order button
    • in the Build Order List,   click the Start dropdown menu and select;      After Transition
    • change the delay to 3.00 secs

add or change additional content and animations to slide 3 as you need.

Ok, but what if I would like a different image to dissolve when I come form Slide 7...?

The main problem is that when clicking the link, there is no 'Build Out' possible. It directly jumps to Slide 3, and since there are different links pointing to Slide 3, it cannot be solved by a 'Build In' as per your suggestion. This is the reason for the intermediate slides that I inserted.

    Thanks anyway for your effort!

    1

Duplicate slide 3 then link to that slide from slide 7

Add the differing content you want included on the duplicated slide 7, again using a Build Out on the objects.

The main problem is that when clicking the link, there is no 'Build Out' possible.

    2

The build out is performed on an object on slide 3, read my suggestion again and try it.

It directly jumps to Slide 3, and since there are different links pointing to Slide 3, it cannot be solved by a 'Build In' as per your suggestion.

As I suggested in point 1, duplicate slide 3 then link to that slide and add the different content you want included, again using a Build Out on the object on slide 3.

I did not suggest using a build in.
