Q: Looks like my iPad has been overtaken by demons

Dear community,

My iPad has started living a life of his own. The apps are opening by themselves, objects are moving on the screen, text is selecting itself and other strange things happen without my input.

How do I perform an exorcism?

iPad, iOS 9.3.5

The "exorcism" is likely needed due to a faulty digitizer / screen. You would have to take the iPad to a store for testing. You can always try the the steps below just in case it is software related although I doubt it.

Try holding down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15 seconds until the Apple logo appears. You will not lose anything.

If a restart does not help try a System Restore. First backup your device using iTunes. Also import your photos to your computer and copy all important data if possible. Try restoring from backup first and testing it. If it does not help, you may have to restore as New and reconfigure from scratch as the backup could be corrupted. For this reason it is important to have your photos and data saved separately from the backup. Here are the steps for a Restore:

Demons have been also known to appear when you're out of memory space. We don't like demons so go to settings> general> storage and iCloud usage> storage> see how much is available. If 0 start deleting apps from the list of apps.

You mean daemons? Wouldn't the daemons crash if there's no remaining free space?

The exact same issue occurred with my very first IPad (gen 1). For a while I thought that it was possessed, particularly when it would start typing random words on its own. I tried speaking to it (the demon), but got no response. I tried doing all of the different types of resets, but they didn't work. It turned out that it was NOT a hardware issue, and I had to do a full restore from scratch to fix it. I also got rid of a number of "junk" apps that I didnt need or want, and re-installed my remaining apps one by one, checking for anomalies after each installation. It worked like a charm after that.  I read a number of posts from other victims of "phantom keyboard" who were instructed by techs that their iPads were faulty, but I believe most of those diagnoses were incorrect. I hope that helps.
