Eliminating ghost files

xI have a MacBook Air Mid 2012 with OS X 10.10.5 and have many ghost files on my desktop. I have tried using tips accessing the terminal with no success. I am trying to trash the ghost files. Any suggestions? All say modified Tuesday, January 24, 1984 and have Zero bytes of data.
