Q: Phantom "Synced from iTunes Library" folder

While emptying out my iPhone 6s's photo library I discovered what I believed were "phantom" or "hidden" photos that were taking up storage space but were not accessible. (I later discovered these photos were, in fact, part of a Shared Photo Stream.  But that's not the reason for my post...)

While attempting to "clean" out these photos, it was suggested that I sync with photos via iTunes as these "phantom" photos might be have been photos from my laptop that can only be removed via sync.  Though I had never synced my photos via iTunes before, I thought it was worth a try. As suggested, I synced the photos to an empty folder and a new problem has now arisen because of this.

When I went back into take a look at the storage space being taken up by photos, I discovered a new folder had suddenly been created inside General>Storage&iCloudUsage>ManageStorage>Photos&Camera:

This new "Synced from iTunes Library folder" suddenly appeared out of nowhere with a negligible 6.1kb of space being used.  Like I said, I had never synced with iTunes before, so this folder had never previously been "created" inside my iPhone, and now I have no idea how to get rid of it.  There are no photos on my phone whatsoever, and I don't want this errant folder sitting in my phone.  I'm assuming (due to the small size) that this is simply an empty folder that was generated when I attempted to sync.  Is there anyway to remove this folder/field?  I have made various attempts to either iTunes sync to an empty folder or to uncheck "Sync Photos" and agreeing for iTunes to "remove" the (zero) photos, but none of this has removed this empty folder.

I have also attempted to use 3rd party software such as iFunbox or iExplorer, but I do not know where this empty folder is or what it would be called so that I could remove it manually.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
