Q: where to download photos for Mac (instead of iPhoto)

I guess I will have to upgrade to El Capitan so I can use photos for Mac instead of iPhoto with which I am having crashes.

Is the Photos for Max a free program and where can I get it? I am looking on the Apple site and find information on how good it is but no download place. Thank you.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

You can not download Photos nor can you run it unless you upgrade to Yosemite or later

Of course you can fis your problem with iPhoto - but for us to help you have to provide details - what version of iPhoto? What has changed since it worked?

A guess is that you have an older version that uses Google maps for places - that contract has expired - if that is it then  you can turn off internet access and launch iPhoto and in the preferences set look up places to never then reconnect the internet, reboot and you should be OK

Or you can upgrade to El Captain and learn Photos (it is a new and different program with a learning curve like all new programs have
