Q: Is there an alternative to Photo that has a similar feature as the old "Events" on iPhoto?

Why did Apple take away the "Events" function in Photo? I have found many comments about how at least the old iPhoto Events are retained and the new way is to group by date as "Moments", but these are poor substitutes. The old Events function worked great - so great that I spent a lot of time organizing my photos that way and I want to continue to do so in the future. Is there an alternative to Photo that has this feature functioning similarly to how it did in iPhoto?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Moments are NOT the new Events. Albums are.

As to alternatives - maybe and maybe not - look and see if anything meets your specific personal needs although I doubt it

In Photos Moments are the new events and you can easily simulate the old events using albums - Moments in Photos are the New Events

Moments are NOT the new Events. Albums are.

That will depend on the aspects of the events you think important.

For me, the Moments are indeed the new events. Consider, Rysz:  The events have been the basic library structure in iPhoto on which we built a custom structure with albums.  Each photo and all its versions have been in exactly one event, and that is still the case in Photos's moments. Events did partition the library in disjunct sets of photos, and moments do the same. The big difference between events and moments is, that we could move photos between events, and now the moments are created automatically, and we have to be content with the automatic partition into moments.

The albums, smart albums, and folders on the other hand are pretty much the same in Photos as in iPhoto.

We can simulate events by albums, if we need to group photos, but I am lucky in as far, as Photos is creating exactly the moments that I used to create as events - one moment per shoot.  So I do not need to simulate events by albums.

Thank you for your responses. I can tell now that I am really unable to re-create what previously existed in Events. To me, the functionality of being able to easily move pictures in and out of events was very important, as well as the ability to make my own events, split them up and create multi-day events. All of this is lost, as well as the viewing structure in which they could all be viewed together with a summary picture for each one.

For me, the need to create folders in the new Photo is a clunky and unattractive substitute to what existed before. It will result in a much longer list of folders than I really want. I had invested a lot of time in Events because it was such a useful and easy format to organize and retrieve photos. I imagined that I would be able to continue that indefinitely and so I don't understand why Apple would take away something that worked so well. My hope at this point is to somehow get the attention of Apple to bring this functionality back to what it was. Unfortunately, I seem to be the only one I'm reading about who seems to think the new method is a poor substitute.
