The usb wired Mac keyboard I'm using with a Mac Pro 2013 desktop (OS 10.11.6) stops working in the midst of a session intermittently. Restart almost results in keyboard being responsive. Any possible explanations and/or remedies

Darned if I know. You could try a hard reset of the machine, or zapping the pram. Failing that, you can use pretty much any USB wired keyboard (Pc or Mac) as a temporary replacement. Heck, I used one from a dumpster I found until I could get a better keyboard. How to do a hard reset-resetting the PMU/SMC or zapping the pram can be found on Apple's website in the support section or if you're lazy like me, google or yahoo works okay
