Q: Really bad static while input monitoring is turned on

I have a Macbook Pro, 2.8 GHz Intel i7 Retina display with 16 GB of ram.  I'm running El Capitan version 10.11.16.  My HD is 500 gigs and I have well over half of that space left.

I produce a podcast and recently switching to Logic Pro X from Garageband.  I have two co-hosts and we ususally have at least one guest on the show.  I needed to have each person on their own channel/track and with everyone being remote that wasn't possible in GB.  Which is why I switched to Logic.  I never had this issue in GB before.  I found and implemented this solution for Logic, albeit a hack, but it works.  For the most part.  Everyone else on the show sounds great!  They can hear each other, there is no lag, nothing.  I start out sounding great but my audio quality quickly degrades, usually to a point that I'm inaudible to everyone.  The static and echo become unbarable.  If I switch the i/o buffer size in Logics preferences that works but only for a very brief time.  Regardless of the buffer setting the audio falls back into to static.  I have tried everything from 32 to 1024 with the exact same result.  I have tried changing cables on my mic, changing the USB ports, restarting.  Nothing works.

If I turn off input monitoring nobody can hear me.  So in this solution (link above) it has to stay on.

I'll admit, I'm a Logic noob.

Help?
