How can I record a synth stereo audio output into garageband ?

Hello,

I have a synthesiser with two left and right audio outputs plugged with two audio cables into my analogue to digital audio interface.

Both channels are being picked up by the interface in stereo.

But in Garageband, the track sounds mono, even though I have choose the left and right (1&2) inputs to go into the track.

I am not sure why or how to fix this.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure if there is something missing in the picture. Let me verify:

  • Your synth has two mono audio outputs, one is labeled left and one is labeled right.
  • You connect the left output to the input channel 1 (mono) on your audio interface and the right output of your synth to the input channel 2 (mono) of your audio interface.
  • Now in GarageBand you choose that audio interface in the Preferences
  • You create a new Track and in the Smart Controls Inspector (see picture), you select for the Input Parameter that audio interface, and click that button to its left so its shows that double circle (which means stereo).
  • This way, GarageBand records a Stereo Track (2 channels), the left synth output as channel 1 (left) and the right synth output as channel 2 (right)

Hope that helps
