Q: Boot camp install Win 7 on iMac 27" (ultimo 2009)

Hi,

I am facing a problem installing Win 7 to my iMac  27" (ultimo 2009). I had this version installed two years ago without problems, but now it challenges me.

When creating the bootcamp partition, and booting from the Win 7 DVD I am able to install without problems. When the PC restarts after downloading windows support to my USB drive, installing windows and gets ready to start Windows for the first time, it stalls and the screen is just black.

I read at the support site that you need to create and image of the Win 7 dvd which should be used together with boot camp, but I cannot choose this option (it simply is not here) "the disc image", when using boot camp.

So what to do?

    Hi Loner T

    Thanks for your reply.

I downloaded this new driver pack and stored it in the root of my USB.

USB is named MBRFAT and is formatted as MS-DOS FAT and connected to back of iMac.

Still I get the black screen before Windows setup is finished.

When following step 4 (in the link you referred me to) the partitions tab (or looking more like button) is dimmed and therefore cannot be clicked, and therefore I cannot click options and then Master Boot Record.

Is this the root to my problem?

Why can't I choose "Partitions"? is my USB (WD Digital 3 years old) too old or lacking some kind of support to be used for this purpose?

    /

    Thanks

From OS X Terminal, with your USB drive connected, can you post the output of

    diskutil list

Do you have a 4/8 GB Flash drive that you can use instead of a 500Gb USB HDD?

Do not worry about trying to fix it. It is unimportant.

Did the installation work properly? If you have keyboard issues, please install BC drivers appropriate for your Mac. The USB you used was only to address the GPU issue. You still need the BC drivers.

    Thanks..

Yes, installation worked properly, this time I could see it was different, as it asked me what version of Win 7 I was installing (Home Premium - which apparently is no longer supported by MS(?) and therefore cannot go to internet)

I ran setup in the driver "pack" I downloaded to the USB before upgrading - so why would that not cover all drivers?

Sorry - what does "BC" refer to?

BC is Bootcamp. Can you check in Device Manager for any unknown devices (yellow triangle and exclamation mark)?

Yes - a Bluetooth HID device is with yellow excl. mark.. - probably the key to the problem..?

I tried installing this as well using the BC drivers downloaded from Apple...
