Q: USB Monitor powered when in clamshell mode

Hi everyone,

Do USB monitors like the AOC 16 and 17" monitors work when the MacBook lid is closed? Basically will the MacBook still power the USB monitor when in closed display mode? Does the MacBook need to do connected to a power source to do so. Please explain.
