Q: How do I turn off ios notifications in iPad 2?

I am running an old iOS in iPad 2.  My iPhone 4s became pretty unusable after an iOS update, but my iPad works fairly fast with the old iOS, and it means I get to keep the Yahtzee app which stopped being supported.  However it is nagging me, seemingly every time I use it, about iOS operating system updates.  This is not a feature that I appreciate, and I think a lot of other customers in my situation would agree.  Is there anything I can do?  David - PS it is helping the environment if my apple products remain of use for as long as possible, and if there is not a way to fix it, please can someone tell me how to complain to Apple/regulators?  Apple acknowledges that a lower processing power is needed for some tasks such as e-mail and possibly Internet browsing, as it has processors in the new iPhone which are 5x less powerful.

Short answer, you can't. Your device checks for updates and automatically starts downloading the latest iOS package under the following condition: there's sufficient free storage space, it's connected to the internet thru WiFi and plugged in to power source (charging). To disable auto download, you will have to violate one of the above conditions. For example, turn off WiFi while it's charging or unplug the device if WiFi is on.

There's a third option, block access to mesu.apple.com on your WiFi router so the device can never check for iOS updates. This is what I'm using to block iOS auto download. Btw, I won't waste my time complaining.

I forgot to mention that you have to delete the fully downloaded iOS package to get rid of the nag to update. Go to Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage and look for iOS 9.x.x entry. Tap it and delete.
