Q: Closed App Store while update was downloading - help

This morning I decided to update to the latest version of El Capitan. I also had 2 other update for application. I clicked on the Update All button and was told that it required a restart. I said ok...

One app installed, and I got an error on the second app. I cancelled that install, but I could see the spinner going at the top of the window. Was it still downloading the El Capitan update? Not sure. Kept spinning and spinning for a long time so eventually I decided to close the App Store.

When I opened it again, the install button changed to "RESTART". But I'm a little worried that I may have closed the App Store in the middle of the download and the file is not complete. I decided to re-boot outside of the App Store. I got a notice saying there is an install available, do you want restart or install and restart. I selected just "restart".

Logged back in and opened the App Store. The button still says "RESTART".  My question: Is Apple smart enough to know that the file is complete, before it tries to do the update? Or should I delete the file and start over? If so, where is the file stored on my hard disk?

Thanks in advance.

If it says it's ready to install, it's ready to install.

If you're going to loose sleep over this delete and download again. The installer should be in your Application folder and also accessible from Launchpad.

Thanks for the response. I looked in /Applications and only see the 2 apps I just updated (sorting by date). I do not see the El Capitan update. I opened Launchpad and I don't see any sign of it there either. I'm wondering if the App Store is confused. I'm worried about clicking "restart" and having things get messed up trying to install some half baked update...  What would the file name be? How do I reset the App Store to force it to re-download the update (start over)? I'm trying to update to the newest version of El Capitan 10.11.6 (I currently have 10.11.5).

    Thanks

I did some digging and found the OSXUpd10.11.6.pkg file in HD/Library/Updates/...

If is is showing up as a package, I suppose the file is ok?  Or can I just delete that one file? If I just delete the file will the index.plist and other plist files with today's date also have issues?

    Please advise. Thanks
