Sep 10, 2016 3:57 PM in response to a.a.h.by Jim Wanamaker,Sorry that deleting preferences was not a solution for you. You say you can not use titles, transitions, backgrounds and music. What specifically happens when you try? error message, iMovie quits, nothing. You may need to reinstall iMovie or try it with a new user.

It is a trouble shooting measure to find out, if something in your current user account is preventing iMovei from working, or if the problem is system wide. What happens, if you log in as the guest user and try to use iMovie from that acoount? The same problems?

Sep 11, 2016 2:55 AM in response to léonieby a.a.h.,New user same problem.
It looks like since a made a NEW library ( as a possible offered solution) its keeps creating new libraries.
by the way: Imovie had minor problems before it crashed continously. My mac is from 2011 and the several upgrades to Imovie 10 , i believe did not work out properly.
Seems I better go back to Ilife-Imovie 09 or search for none Apple alternatives. With the upcoming OS Siera my old Imovie wil be killed anyway I am affraid.

You also removed the iMovie preferences , right? Then iMovie does not remember the path to the previous library, because that is stored in the preferences and you have to open that library manually. Had down the options key while launching iMovie to bring up the file chooser panel.
New user same problem.
That looks like a system wide problem.
Are your libraries on an external drive? If yes, what is the file system and how is the drive connected?
Do you have any older software installed, that might be not be fully compatible with your current system? Device drivers, any helper tools, haxies, anything that is not a native Mac application and has not been updated for some time?

My older 2011 MacBook pros had no problems with iMovie 10.1.2 on El Capitan.

Sep 11, 2016 5:51 AM in response to léonieby a.a.h.,Re-installed Imovie again. Made one small movie. So far so good But I lost confidence in this program. Disappointed like many many other (dutch) updaters who seem to have the same problem after updating to El Capitan.
