All my text messages disappeared!

I have an iPhone 6 with version 9.3.2 (I tried to update my phone but for some reason it says I am not connected to the internet even though I am; so it won't let me download it).

Yesterday, my text messages were not sending so I hard reset my phone and when it turned back on, all my text messages were gone! I had 8.0GB in text messages and none of those GB were restored. I even bought an external hard drive to save all my texts on there but did not get a chance to upload the messages yet and now they're gone.

Also, my safari pages disappear after a week or so. My internet history deletes after a few hours. I never set my settings for it to delete that quickly.

Do you think it is a glitch because my phone is not updated? Will I be able to get my text messages back?
