Q: Composers Not Showing up in Menu on iPod

Okay,  I have several 1000's songs on my iPod.  When I plug my iPod into my computer and click on the device I see all of my songs and artists.  When I unplug and browse the device I cannot see some of them.  I then did a search on the iPod for "Dix" for "Dixie Chicks" and it found 4 albums. Same with Dire Straights and others too.  Does anyone know why this is happening?

When you say "composers," do you actually mean Composer and not Artist?  Those are two separate data fields for songs in iTunes. Most songs should have the Artist field populated, but many may not have an entry for Composter.

If this is something that worked before, and does not now for some reason, the cause may be data corruption on the iPod.  If all of your songs are in your iTunes library, you may want to do a Restore on iPod using iTunes.  This erases iPod, reinstalls its software, and sets it to default settings.  The Restore button is on iPod's Summary settings screen in iTunes.  Then sync your music library back to iPod like before.

Thanks.  Looking at my iPod Classic under  I see: Cover Flow, Playlists, Albums, Compilations, Songs, Genres, Composers, Audiobooks, and Search as options.  I do not see Artist.  What am I doing wrong?  if the iPod software is out of date, shouldn't the system tell me that when I am plugged into my Mac?

It should be there, unless it's set to not be there.  Go into your iPod's onboard Settings.  On my iPod model, it's

Settings screen -> General -> Music Menu

The things that appear on the iPod's Music menu are checked.  Make sure Artists has a checkmark.
