Once you have iTunes 12.4x, you should see an improvement. If not, also upgrade your Mac OS. The current OS is El Capitan (10.11x) and is available for free in the App store.

I am already on the latest version of both iTunes and Mac OS so I am afraid it did not do the trick.
Strange thing is also that some older purchases are working but the most recent ones don't
