disk storage, other inappropriately labeled
The storage bar for the hard drive is inaccurately labeling categories. The photos says 6 gb yet other is 500gb and that is mostly photos. Is there a way too get the macbook to reassess its storage?

You can force Spotlight to rebuild its index.
The photos library appears to be categorized as other even after doing this. Any other suggestions.
Thank you
The fact is that there is a bug in the program that generates that display and the data should not be trusted and even if you rebuild the Spotlight index, it is not a guarantee that the errors will be corrected.
I suggest that one download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper and Grand Perspective (both free) and open them. They will show all of your files and the respective sizes.

Ciao.
The omni disk sweeper appears to correctly determine size of folders on drive. Thank you. Should I be concerned as the other one that mislabeled it is from the mac operating system?
No, (other than irritating the user) it is of no consequence
Somewhat similar to Csound1's reply, I have given up on that display and ignore it.
Ciao.
