Sep 9, 2016 5:03 PM in response to hocakesby Diana.McCall,The easiest way to pair the Remote app is to buy a replacement ATV remote. You can use the older silver remotes to control ATV 4, so you don't have to buy a Siri remote. You'll need a real remote again if you ever change your network connection, because the Remote app connects over WiFi.
Regarding killing apps using the Remote app, assuming you mean on ATV 4, it works the same as the Siri remote. You double tap the Home button to bring up the app chooser, and swipe up to close an app.

Sep 9, 2016 5:01 PM in response to hocakesby vazandrew,The replacement remote would work out of the box, just like the one that originally shipped with the device. If you are using the Apple TV remote app then it would work the same as the physical remote (double tap of the home button will bring up all open apps, swipe up to close)

Sep 9, 2016 5:09 PM in response to hocakesby Diana.McCall,I'm sorry. You confused me with the Remote app context. You already have a new remote. If it's the Siri remote for ATV 4, see https://help.apple.com/appletv/#/atvbc9953e63. For the older remotes, see Pair or unpair your Apple Remote with your Apple TV (3rd generation or earlier) - Apple Support. Hope that helps.
