Q: Keep build order when replacing image?

Hi guys this problem has plagued me for a while,

I'm creating a video template in Keynote. The intro slide has a video file (locked) followed by an image (not locked) and finally another video file (locked). The three of them follow a specific build order with delays that in turn creates the full animation.

All I want the user to do is replace that middle image on the slide with one of their choosing.

The problem is, once the user replaces the image, the image's placement and delay in the build order are lost. Unfortunately I don't believe the users are sophisticated enough to follow instructions on how to fix the build order, and replace the timing delay the image needs.

Is there anyway someone (with limited understanding of Keynote) can replace that middle image without compromising the build order?

Thanks!

    Use an image place holder:

    • add an image to the slide in the format you want (vertical or horizontal)
    • position and size as required
    • add required formatting (picture frame, drop shadow etc)
    • select the image then:     Inspector > Format > Advanced > Define as Media Placeholder

users  drag and drop any image onto the place holder which will adopt the formating of the placeholder and retain animation settings

    Hi Gary,

I actually can't use media place holders or master slides at all, as every time the image is replaced, it removes that image from the build order.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks

it removes that image from the build order.

To clarify, the image placeholder should now contain the new image, and that image should be correctly listed in the build list.

image placeholder, note the icon bottom left on the placeholder:

    placeholder.png

replaced image, note the image has taken on the attributes of the placeholder, including the animation:

    replaced.png

So that should not happen, after all thats the purpose of using image placeholders.

What specific version of Keynote and Mac OS are you using?

    Thanks for the quick reply!

    Keynote: version 6.6.2

    Mac OS: Yosemite, 10.10.5

Here's the problem I'm having with the build order

As you can see once I select a new image replacement, the photo goes from"after build 1" to "after build 3" and the 1.85 second delay reverts to 0.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Are you dragging and dropping the new image on to the placeholder, a green button with a plus sign will appear?
