Q: Wi-Fi lag while iPhone is locked

Hey everyone!

I've been experiencing the most random thing ever: Having my iphone locked, after a few minutes, my home Wi-Fi starts lagging and then crashes. As soon as I unlock my iPhone, everything goes back to normal! It's really weird.

If I'm ping testing, as soon as first packet is lost, it looks like all packets are held in a queue, when I unlocked the iPhone they all get response times of 1-40 seconds.

Any idea what could be causing this?

I have a Linksys E8350 and WRT-610N. The whole network dies when this happens.

Thank you

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.5

    Try these:

    1. Reboot Router/Modem:  Unplug from power for 2 minutes and plug again.

    2. Update Router Firmware (check manufacturer’s support website for a newer FW).

    3. Also try different bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and different bandwidths (20 MHz recommended for the 2.4 band). Channels 1, 6 or 11 are recommended for the 2.4 band.

    4. Change to Google's DNS:  Settings > Wi-Fi > Click on the Network, Delete all numbers under DNS and enter 8.8.8.8 or alternatively 8.8.4.4

    5. Disable device prioritization on the router if this feature is available. Also disable any VPN apps and test Wi-Fi again.

FWIW I have had a lot of issues with Linksys routers and iOS devices (IMO Linksys not the same great company it used to be). I had to switch router brands and now have no further issues.
