Q: Allergic Apple Watch (support case *****)

A harrowing story around the Apple watch - Aluminum 42 mm, Sports edition, bought in May 2016 from one of the Apple premium resellers in Singapore.

The sports rubber band with metal clipon caused massive allergies within 48 hours of usage. 2016-06-17 09.15.17.jpg

After contacting apple support and speaking with engineering, product specialists...being on hold for 20 mins several times and spending at least 3 hours over multiple calls, Apple decided to replace the band with nylon which is made of different metal hook and this allergy was resolved. not the best support experience, yet it was resolved.

Soon after I developed allergies on the other side of the wrist where the digital crown touches the wrist.

Discontinued using the watch as soon as the reaction developed so it did not blow up into a bloody rash like earlier.

This is where the harrowing experience with Apple support started. 3 product specialists, many frustratingly long calls and Emails and tweets...finally after 2 months, the case was transferred to consumer relations and they said :

- All of our watch crowns have the same metals so we cannot replace the crown.

- Since this was not purchased directly from Apple, there can be no Refund.

They also said that since Singapore does not have consumer protection laws, so Apple is not legally bound to make a refund to me.

Is this acceptable ?

Being a loyal apple customer, is this how I deserve to get treated ? The purchase was made from an authorized reseller with  a receipt and full payment. Where does it state that the warranty and liability terms are different if someone buys from Apple directly vs. Reseller ?

Where is the allergy disclaimer on the watch package ? And what is the resolution if someone does get an allergy. Since Apple has made the product, they still own the liability.

I have asked for my case notes from apple support so I can appeal in consumer tribunals or go to courts. However, is it worth the pain for this Allergic Apple Watch ?

    Hi,

Have you seen this support article yet >  Wearing Apple Watch - Apple Support

"A small number of people will experience reactions to certain materials. This can be due to allergies, environmental factors, extended exposure to irritants like soap or sweat, and other causes. If you know you have allergies or other sensitivities, be aware that Apple Watch and some of its bands contain the following materials:"

Have tried to get a refund from the reseller you purchased the watch from? Your contract is with the reseller and not with Apple. The reseller should have to deal with Apple, not you.

    Do you live in Singapore?
