Sep 10, 2016 8:00 AM in response to geoffreyfromgicby stevejobsfan0123,★HelpfulAll files are not saved to iCloud Drive. Photos are sent to Photo Stream or iCloud Photo Library depending on your settings. Other, third-party data may or may not be backed up depending on the apps' compatibility with Drive.
To see what's in Drive, go to Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive > Show on Home Screen. Then tap the iCloud Drive icon on the home screen.

Sep 9, 2016 8:26 PM in response to stevejobsfan0123by geoffreyfromgic,Thank you, but that's exactly the problem--- there is nothing there when I tap on the icon. None of my recent photos, no other files! I really cannot figure this out!

Sep 9, 2016 8:28 PM in response to geoffreyfromgicby geoffreyfromgic,by the way, I do have photos in the Photo Stream, but they were there, months before I even knew or used ICloud Drive.

Sep 9, 2016 8:43 PM in response to geoffreyfromgicby stevejobsfan0123,★HelpfulAgain, photos will not appear in iCloud Drive. For other files, you need to check with the apps you are using to create/download/open those files. For example, if you create slideshow presentations with Keynote, you may need to go to Settings > Keynote > Use iCloud ON. Other apps may have similar menus. If not, then they don't support iCloud Drive. You need to go on an app-by-app basis.

Sep 9, 2016 8:59 PM in response to stevejobsfan0123by geoffreyfromgic,I am looking actually for a way, in the background, or manually, to backup my photos and other files!
I know that iCloud on its own can backup, but this is only useful for resetting a new or other iPhone or iPad.
surely Apple offers some way of doing this, so that I can access part of the backup?
please tell me, as I am new to all this, what is the main function of the DRIVE.
thanks
GEoffrey
