Q: iMac 15,1 5k fan speed.

Last august I bought a 27" 5k iMac, i7 4Ghz, 16Gb RAM, AMD Radeon R9 M295X, running 10.11.6.

Until the last few weeks, everything was completely fine, spectacular piece of engineering.

Then, the cooling fan went bananas, running always at top speed (~2850rpm) even if no major hardware use is involved (no renderings, no audio/video editing, ...) like now: just browsing the web, fan at 2285rpm.

Is it normal?

P.s. I was blaming the hot climate (north of Italy) with temperatures above 95 °F, but now we're around 70 °F, and still bananas.

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

sounds like what happened to my older mac check the new macs pull air from the bottom of the machine verify that the vents are clean and free from obstruction. Also go into application folder then utilities open activity monitor and make sure that there is not a program your not aware of burning up you cpu usage your not aware of it happens if so shut it down or delete it. It does sound like your turbo boost is kicking in whitch will heat up cpu and cause fan to run at high speed if problem persist after checking all i have listed would call apple support that fan should not do that thanx
