Q: Macbook pro 2011 - won't start - greenish screen

Hello everyone,

I am wondering what is happening to my macbook pro.

Product: macbook pro early 2011 - 2ghz - 8gb of ram - running os 10.11.4

symptoms: suddently stopped last week when I was watching a movie. Note that the fans were kind of noisy since the weather was warm and the computer hot as well. Now it boots up but won't proceed to the login part. It shows a greenish screen with weird block lines. Please see the attached pictures.

Looks like it could be the graphic card.

I have tried to clear the NVRAM, boot in safe mode, and reinstall over wifi but that did not help

i tried to get an appointment at the local apple store but the waiting time is just crazy...

thank you for your support.

Use the original Snow Leopard Installation disk and see if you can access Disk Utility and run First Aid on the HDD.

    If you need directions, ask.

    Ciao.

    Dear Ogelthorpe,

Thank you for your support and answer. I managed to find my old apple dvd and tried with it.

It turns out that I cannot proceed with the dvd. I have a new sound from my mac at the startup (3 successive tones) when trying to boot on it (pressing c after the classic mac bootup sound).

I found online that it could be the RAM:

    • 3 successive tones, a 5 second pause (repeating): This indicates RAM does not pass a data integrity chec

New thing: When I let the computer start without touching any keys, I end up on the Apple startup logo and after a while I have a blue/black stripped screen.

I'll try to find some new RAM to give it a try.

    Thanks again,
