Q: family shared photo folder not sharing all photos

Hi

Using Photo sharing (Mac OS X 10.11.6), and adding 4,900 photos to my "Family" Shared album (below the 5,000) limit.

However, in the shared folder "Family" it does indeed have all 4,900 photos (it says so at the top) but only actually shares a few hundred photos ("Sharing 840 Items), not all of them.  I can right click on a photo and choose "share" from the icon at the top, but that gives me 2 photos in the Shared album.

I can't right click and share them all, as it says I already have 840 shared (but don't know which ones), therefore adding all of them takes it over the limit.  And I'm not convinced that's correct anyway.

I have deleted them all, then added them back, but it never seems to share more than a few hundred.....

Any ideas?

There is not only a limit to the total number of photos in a shared album, but also a limit to the upload rate.

you can only upload 1000 photos per hour to a shared album, and only 10000 photos per day across all shared albums.

See this page:  My Photo Stream and iCloud Photo Sharing limits - Apple Support

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202299

You probably just have to wait until the time limit is up and the upload resumes.

    HI

thanks for that - but I uploaded them 16 hours ago, and the amount shared hasn't changed in all that time....

Have you tried to restart iCloud Photo Sharing?

    1. Quit  Photos if it is open.
    2. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences.
    3. Click Cloud, then click the Options button next to Photos.
    4. Deselect iCloud Photo Sharing, then click OK.
    5. Wait about a minute.
    6. Log off and on again.
    7. Click the Options button next to Photos in the System Preferences > iCloud.
    8. Select iCloud Photo Sharing, then click OK.
    9. Open Photos.
    10. Open the shared album.

The Shared album will slowly download from iCloud again. You should now be seeing only the photos that actually uploaded to iCloud and start to add missing photos. I would not try to add hundreds of photos at once. It it hrd to check what actually will upload, because the uploaded photos may be arranged randomly and not in the order they had in the album you are uploading from.

And the shared albums are more managable, if you separate the photos across multiple albums.
