Q: How can I install an older version of Aperture?

Hi all,

I am using a MacBook Pro Mid-2010.

For a long time it was my main working laptop and I was always updating to the latest OS X versions.

My hobby is Photography so in 2012 I also purchased Aperture and I also kept updating it.

However, after upgrade to OS X El Capitan (10.11 I think) the performance of my laptop gradually diminished and it became really slow. I also bought a new laptop and my Mac became my second laptop.

I decided to go back to the roots and install OS X Lion on it (10.7.5).

However when I try do download and install Aperture's newest version (3.6) I get an error message that OS X 10.10 is required ...

Can somebody tell me how can I find and install an older version of Aperture (for example 3.4.5 which I think is the last version that supports 10.7 Lion)?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5), Model Mid-2010

Do you still have the original installer DVD for Aperture?

You need a full installer for Aperture 3. If you originally purchased the boxed version of Aperture with a serial number, use this DVD.  Then update this version to Aperture 3.4.5 from Apple's update page    Download Aperture 3.4.5

There is no way to download a full installer for Aperture from Apple anymore, because Aperture is no longer sold and developed. The only version you can download is Aperture 3.6 from the AppStore, if you previously updated to this version from the AppStore. Then you can reinstall Aperture 3.6 from your Purchases history (the fourth tab of the AppStore). Apple's download page on the supprt page has only updates for Aperture, but not full installers.

If you do not have a separate installer use your Time Machine backups and go back i time to your Lion days, if the backup history goes that far. Restore an old Aperture version from the Applications folder. The newer Aperture versions since 3.3 are self contained and you can simply copy them from the Applications folder.

No, I don't have it because I bought it online (from the app store) back in the day.

Ok, thank you very much for the quick answer. If it is not possible any more to download it, then I would look for alternatives.

    You're welcome.

because I bought it online (from the app store) back in the day.

Does Aperture show at the AppStore, when launch the AppStore, you sign in with the AppleID you used to buy Aperture, and open the fourth tab "Purchases"?  Just to be sure, check if you are seeing the older version of Aperture that could run on your system.  Apple had a long maintenance at all stores right before the Apple Event on Tuesday, and perhaps some older software came back.

You could also try to install El Capitan on an external drive, and boot your Mac from that drive to run Aperture 3.6.

However, after upgrade to OS X El Capitan (10.11 I think) the performance of my laptop gradually diminished and it became really slow. I also bought a new laptop and my Mac became my second laptop.

It would be good to know, what made your laptop slow with El Capitan. It could be a simple problem like the system drive running out of storage. let you fill it up, until you no longer had enough working storage for OS X, less than 10GB free storage?

Or not enough RAM?  Is the RAM of your Mac maxed out or could you add more?
