Q: iPad disabled

Hi.

My iPad mini has been disabled as a result of typing the wrong passcode. I've tried restoring it via iTunes, but it prompts me to update the iPad first. This update takes longer than 2 hours and during that time my iPad exits the recovery mode (lightning connector and iTunes logo on the screen disappear and the iPad turns back on) and I'm not able to complete the process.

I do remember what my passcode was. I've tried following all the steps on the apple website but it doesn't work as mentioned above.

Should I take my iPad to the apple store and ask them to solve this issue for me and will I be charged for doing so?

Thanks.

    Hi

Your PC must be running the latest itunes 12.4.3

    Turn ipad off

Connect lead to USB on your PC

Press & hold just the power button on iPad DONT let go connect lead to ipad

Keep power button pressed down until PC sees ipad then wait for restore .

You may need to do this more than once before it works.

If it doesn't go to iforgot.apple.com or make an appointment at apple store

    Take proof of purchase .

    Cheers

    Brian

    Thanks for your response Brian.

I've done exactly as you've instructed me. Before I can restore my iPad, iTunes downloads an update which takes more than two hours. During this time, my iPad exits recovery mode and I have to repeat the first two step s you mentioned. Also, iTunes stops downloading the update.

My PC is running the latest version of iTunes currently. Before my iPad got disabled, there was a security update pending which I assume is what iTunes wants me to download before I can proceed with restoring the iPad.

There isn't any sort of problem with my Internet connection and/or speed.

It seems I may have to take it to the apple store after all.
