Are nylon bands waterproof?
I'm thinking or buying an sports watch. I would like to wear the watch while swimming.
Are nylon bands waterproof? i.e. OK to wear while swimming?

A user with experience of the Woven Nylon band has described it as absorbing water and remaining wet for quite some time afterwards.
Apple's instructions for drying the Woven Nylon band are to let it air dry. Apple also advises that exposure to direct sunlight, high temperatures and/or humid conditions during drying can cause damage.
The Sport Band can be wiped down with a nonabrasive, lint-free cloth (dampened with fresh water, if required) and then dried using another such cloth, leaving it immediately ready for continued, dry wear.

Thanks for the useful comments.
I can see that the woven nylon band maybe waterproof (or water resistant), hence my question looking for confirmation or clarification.
However, on the other hand perhaps the water may effect the nylon as don't know how it is made or if it is a composite material of nylon and some other material. Also perhaps the buckle may be affected by fresh water or ocean water.
Perhaps there some users who have used the nylon bands during swimming?
Thanks for the useful comments.
I haven't done any swimming with mine but I do sweat heavily during a workout. I haven't had any problem with it absorbing water at all and it dries rapidly. I also spilled something on it and cleaned it with water and a cloth. Again it cleaned rapidly.
Where did this user describe the issue? How much is "quite some time"?
It is safe to swim in your nylon band. That said, nylon is water resistant but not waterproo. As I am sure you know, nylon does absorb liquid but not readily. Even so, nylon dries out and returns to the state it was originally with no damage. It also dries quickly. It is a lot like a swimming suit. All of this said, you can swim in your band just fine if you do not mind a wet wrist for a little bit. There will be no damage.
I Should also mention:
My Apple Watch 2 came with a leather band But I bought a nylon and sports band separately because the leather band on my watch 1 ruined in 6 months from sweating. I noticed the nylon band is the only one without any type of metal to stabilize it where it snaps into the head. This could be a problem and could break easily. Does anyone know why they habe only made the nylon strap this way?
My concern about the sport band is that if I'm swimming in the ocean and get hit by a wave, the force of the water could detach the band from my wrist. With the nylon band, the manner of attachment makes that much less likely. Thoughts (beyond don't take it in the ocean)?

I suggest that you buy whichever band you will feel most comfortable and confident in wearing.
Your best option for swimming is the Sport Band.
Why wouldn't the nylon work?
Can someone please answer this question?
I too would specifically like to know if you can swim with the nylon straps. (AW2)
Yes.
If I had to guess I'd say it would be to maintain the lightweight feel of the Nylon band.
