closed email account

Hi,my email account linked to my apple account was closed for security reasons' by BT, so I changed my main email address on itunes but forgot to change icloud, now I get the sign into icloud prompt every time i use my mac. I try with the password linked to my old email address but it says the email is not an email that is linked to anything, I am going round in circles. I spoke to apple and they couldn't see any way to rectify it so they just sent me a link, which they said would take 24 hours to receive and only 3 hours window to use which would solve my problem I have also turned off all access from all my other devices but It was basically the forgot your password page which is easily accessible to anybody anytime, has anybody come across this before and have an easy fix, I would be forever grateful

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Move the following to the Trash and restart.

Close all running apps. Put the following items in the trash:

1) In the ~/Library/ folder, put the Caches folder in the trash.

2) In the ~/Library/Application Support/ folder, put the folder iCloud in the trash.

3) In the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder, put the file MobileMeAccounts.plist in the trash.

If you email account, linked to your Apple ID account, was closed for security reasons by BT as you put, then you should not have bothered to change your Apple ID. Whatever BT does will not affect your Apple ID as they are two separate entities.

With that being said, if you have to change your Apple ID, you should have completely logged out of your iCloud account (on all devices) including signing out of the Find My Phone; then changed the Apple ID, and safely log back in.

In order to sign back into your device(s), you will have to do so with the old/previous Apple ID and password, then sign out completely as I described above, and then change it at https://appleid.apple.com.

After, sign back in with the new Apple ID and password.

I understand what you are saying but the problem is nothing will accept the old apple ID or password, I have turned off all devices but the icloud sign in box, which pops up all the time on my imac, will not accept any password for the old user ID, when I try and retrieve the password, on the forgot your password page, it says the username does not exist so as you can see I am going round in circles and getting nowhere, and to top it all my keychain is not accepting my password so can't install updates, can I close all accounts ,itunes etc, and start again without loosing anything as I have no hair left to pull out. Thanks to you for your replies,
