Where can I find out the file size of software updates? I have a limited and expensive data allowance and need to know whether I should take my computer somewhere else to download these updates.

The OS X App Store Updates panel will not show the size of the software update, until after you are downloading it (mouse-over the Launchpad icon). There is a way to see the size before commencing the download.

Open the Terminal application (Launchpad : Other : Terminal).

The following will give you a list of currently available software updates, and their sizes. The sudo command will prompt you for your adminstrator/login password, and it will not echo to the Terminal. Type only the blue text.

$ sudo softwareupdate -l

Quit the Terminal when you are done.
