Q: I cannot change duration in latest version of iMovie

I am using the latest version of iMovie and I cannot find out where to change the duration of photos in my movie.  I see an icon that looks like a timer but it does not activate when I click on it.  Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?  Thanks.

    Hi, tomcat,

I didn't see your second post before typing this, but I thought I would post it anyway.

There are different ways to change the duration of a photo.

Initially, you can select iMovie/Preferences in the menu at the top of your screen, and set the default duration in the duration box.  Projects started after that will set the photo duration at the default duration that you chose.

For photos already in the time line of a project, there are two ways to change photo duration.

The first way is to select the photo in the time line, and then click on the icon that looks like a circle with an "i" in it, in the toolbar above your screen, to the right.  A duration box will appear to the right and you can change your photo duration by typing in a new duration and then pressing the return key on your keyboard.  You also can use this method to change duration of a whole group of pictures at once, by shift-selecting them all as a group, clicking on the "i" icon, and setting the duration as before.

A second way to change photo duration is to first expand your time line by moving the slider bar located next to the settings button on the right hand middle side of your screen.  Then select your photo and drag its right edge to the right to extend its duration and to the left to decrease it.

    Hope this helps.
