Q: Lacie External Hard Drive Connection Problems

I own a Lacie, a Macbook Pro, and a rather old iMac.

 

I have recently had problems with the lacie connecting via firewire. On either computer it either shows up briefly then disconnects abruptly or doesn't show up entirely.

 

I may have found a workaround by connecting it via USB. This seems to work on the laptop, but on the iMac, it either takes forever to load everything then unmounts when I try and access a file or folder or doesn't show up at all.

 

In all of the above cases, it makes noise like it's connecting and functioning properly.

I rely extensively on the Lacie for backup purposes. Any help on this issue would be appreciated!

    Hi dggxam1

     

    Not sure if this is of much help, but, I heard about these problems with Lacie drives, so I opted for  a "G Technology" drive,  its already formatted for Mac, I have 5 of these and never had a problem with any.

    I know it doesn't actually solve your Lacie problem, but just pointing this out should you wish try to another make.
