Q: My iCal still won't work.

After upgrading to El Capitan, the iCal on my Mac won't show calendars that are in my iCloud and showing on my iPhone and iPad Mini. I have tried disconnecting iCloud Drive and restarting my Mac but to no avail. Help?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

    Ferd II,

I read the Apple Support info you suggested. Follow-up question: There are no events populating my local (Mac) calendar, but my iCloud calendar is fully populated. Am I to do the "cleaning" suggested by Apple Support to my iCloud calendar? How can I back-up those events when the iCloud is my back-up? FYI, I'm not using any calendars other than iCal. I don't want to lose my calendar events everywhere. As it is right now my iCloud, iPhone and iPad show my complete calendar. Only my Mac is missing all of its data.

Thanks for your help. Just please tell me if I am supposed to "clean" my iCloud calendar since there is nothing I can clean on my Mac calendar, and how I can back-up my iCloud calendar.

    Woolybon,

Are all of your Calendars displayed when you select: Calendar>View>Show Calendar List?

"On My Mac" will not display synced data which may lead you to the conclusion that iCloud events are not syncing.

Archive or make copies of your iCloud data - Apple Support explains how to backup iCloud Calendars.

Also, If you accidentally deleted your calendars, reminders, or contacts from iCloud - Apple Support explains how to use the iCloud Restore feature.

    Cleaning may not be necessary.

    Ferd II,

None of my iCal calendars (Home, Work, Family, Travel, etc.) show when I do "Calendar>View>Show Calendar List". In fact, that function displays Hide which means they should be Showing - but they aren't.

I will read Apple Support and backup my iCloud calendar. Then I will clean out my Birthday entries since they might be causing a problem. I'll also remove a lot of past events that I can live without. Then I'll try iCloud Restore.

Does this sound like a good plan? It might take me a few hours to do this, but I'll let you know if it's successful or not when I finish. Thanks MUCH for your help.

    Woolybon,

The Calendars in the Sidebar may be also be hidden. Hover your cursor over iCloud to display "Show":

You should be safe as long as you make those backups.

Try going to System Preferences/iCloud and stop syncing. Wait a couple of minutes, then recheck syncing.

Have you tried signing out of iCloud and then sign back in?
