Q: Internal drive (not the boot) not functioning properly

I am having a problem with an internal drive (not the boot drive) in my Mac Pro. Here's what's going on - when reading, writing, or copying files to/from the drive the data will transfer for a few seconds then pause for a few seconds (or minutes) before continuing, or timing out with an error code (Error code -36). I know the data I'm copying is good because with several files, after timing out, it is able to copy properly, but very slow. A gig file could take 10 minutes or more. I've tried rebooting, unplugging and reseating the internal drive, verifying and repairing the disc (bother said it was ok), repairing permissions and running Disk Warrior (again, all said ok).

Any help on getting the drive working so I can back up my data would be greatly appreciated!

10 GB RAM

OS X 10.8.5

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Try moving the drive to a different bay.
Do you have this problem with another drive?
DId it work before?

This is the only drive that this happens with. It's always worked but it would occasionally be "slow". Will moving it to another bay affect the path in any way? I'm assuming no.

From memory, my recollection is that -36 is premature end-of-file. The drive may be having trouble reading.

I suspect that either the source drive or the destination drive has Bad Blocks, and is doing thousands of re-tries trying to get good data. That places it one step away from DEAD.

Got a Trusted Backup? an appropriate large drive (can be really slow) can be had for under US$100. Time Machine is already on your Mac.

I'm using Crash Plan but the drive isn't showing up there. It's showing up locally though...
