Q: Editing and sending docs from transcend usb with iPad pro

Hi

I have the smaller iPad Pro, key board and transcend usb. I work a lot away from home and am an editor. I have all my work files on the transcend usb which I use in my on the PC in my office. From the PC I can edit all files stored on the transcend usb and resave - it's simaple. Now here I am away from the office and want to be able to do the same on th iPad. This appears to be far from simple.

I have resorted to sending images separately via email but my designers like the files to be sent in batches of 5 - normally I use wetransfer but this option doen't seem available directly from the usb. Can anyone hel please?

I'm beginning to think I should have saved money and bought a small Windows tablet!!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Your question seems immersed in the "how" I get things done (e.g., using USB, which does not exist on an iPad).  As it sounds like the folks you work with are not using Apple gear, I suggest you re-orient your thinking toward "what" needs to be done (e.g., transfer [something, perhaps images and/or files] to my designers).

This may be true, and really doesn't matter since the iPad has a lightning connector and not a USB port.  However, checking the App Store reveals that indeed there is a wetransfer application available for the iPad (at least in the U.S.):

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wetransfer/id765359021?mt=8

If any of your colleagues do have Apple gear, there are simpler ways to transfer work.  There are also plans to enhance the iWork applications (Pages, Numbers, Keynote) that work on your iPad to allow real-time collaboration.  These plans were announced at Apple's product announcement on Sept. 7.  I believe they would even be available to non-Apple product owners who use iCloud.

Here is a writeup about the collaboration methods Apple's Pages word processor for iPad provides today.

    HI

thanks for your reply. The transcend usb also has a lightning connector one end and usb the other. I have the wetransfer app just can't get the files from transcend to the wetransfer or for that matter can't edit without several steps in between. I did quite a lot of research before purchasing and for me the how is at this moment paramount.

The transcend is advertised in Apple publications with Apple logos etc... it seemed a revolutionary break through.

    thanks again.

You never mentioned the JetDrive Go application.  Do you have this on your iPad?  How is it entering into your scenario?

    Hi

    Thanks for sticking with me.

Yes I have the app and manual. Unlike on the pic I'm unable to edit directly from the app - I have to send to an app - at the moment pages seems the easiest. Modify and then open in the app to move to the key. I now want to transfer a file of 5 docs and photos but although I have wetransfer, that option doesn't appear. I usually zip the files and can't find that option either.

The manual focuses more on the transfer of photos and videos and so I guess this is the primary use.

Going to have another try now.

    Thanks

PS I only have 4 options when I select the file I want to transfer : move to Jetdrive copy to jet drive move to my storage copy to my storage. I want to move it from either of these to the designers - via whatever method!

    thanks

Those could be the only ways to use this device. What exact file types are you trying to copy and to where?

"work files" don't really tell us much.

iOS does not allow developers full and complete access to its file system.

You will be limited to the "share" options allowed by iOS and only for the file types allowed.

    HI

I on the usb I have word docx files in separate folders I've 2 or three docs in each folder. I now have some separate docs which I would like to put in to 1 folder and I am unable to do that. I usually also include image files in a sub folder and am unable to set up that up. Normally, once I'm ready to send them I zip the word folders together with the image folders and then and send via wetransfer - I don't mind sending them a different way but the only options showing on the GO app are move or copy to my storage or move or copy to Jet Drive.

I Have the manual and read it before purchasing but the reality is I don't have these options.

Thanks for trying to help. I am willing to bundle in a different way but can't even get them from the USB to the iPad ..

The lack of a true file management app is keeping you from using your tried workflow.

If you can get each of the pieces you need in DropBox, iCloud Drive or on the USB device, then you could use a Mac or PC to bundle them up as you like to do.

    iOS doesn't do folders.
