Q: Photos won't transfer iPhone 6 to Macbook Pro

I attempted to transfers photos from my iPhone 6 to Macbook Pro via a USB connection, but none show up in iPhotos to import. I also attempted to transfer using airdrop, but received a 'failed' message on my iPhone. Have tried the basics already...Not super familiar with iCloud. Wondering if that could be interfering? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
