Q: iPad Mini 1 battery life issues iOS 9.3.5

I purchased an iPad Mini 1st generation 32GB secondhand yesterday, and I have noticed that the battery is draining more than expected. I charged it up to 100% this morning, and it is currently on 82% after 2 hours and 14 minutes of usage (currently 5:18PM AEST). I am unsure if this is due to an older device; or if it's just a software bug and can be fixed with a software update?

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue with their iPad Mini 1 running on iOS 9.3.5?

iPad mini Wi-Fi, iOS 9.3.5, 32GB

    Hi

82% after 2 hours seems ok to me even on standby it uses battery

Turn screen brightness down a bit also turn off apps refresh in settings.

    Cheers

    Brian

iPad mini was first released in 2012 and discontinued in 2013.

Since it's 2nd hand, the battery may not be in the best condition.

make a genius bar appointment with Apple for an evaluation.

They have tools to test your battery.

That may be an ok rate of discharge but don't let anyone fool you, there are many of us having issues with battery charging and discharging issues after the 9.3.5 ios upgrade. my iPad and iPhone charge so slow I can picture someone hand cranking to generate power. I posted on FB and had many people fighting the same thing and you can find numerous posts on the applie boards about it. Thing is I have found zero help on what to do!

I agree with Bryan. Your iPad Mini's battery life isn' that bad, actually. Compare it to my iPhone 6s. It loses 30% battery an hour!

I have turned background app refresh off in settings; and so far, battery life has seemed to have improved. I have been using my iPad (very lightly) throughout the day, and it's still on 100%. I really hope Apple does release another bug fix update for devices that don't support iOS 10 though (original iPad Mini) just in case this is a bug/glitch.

Well your iPhone 6S shouldn't be discharging that quickly as it was only released towards the end of last year. I would take it to Apple and have it evaluated, and if there's a chance that it's a hardware problem (which it sounds like it is), they should replace it even if it's not under warranty due to the Australian consumer law.

Since you recently updated to iOS 9.3.5,

Have you tried a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?
